Do you know what they do to keep a circus elephant from running away? The world’s most powerful animal, which can uproot a tree easily as you and I can break a toothpick, remains tied down by a small peg and a flimsy chain. How come? When still a baby, the elephant is tethered by a very thick rope to a stake firmly hammered into the ground. The elephant tries several times to get free, but it lacks the strength to do so. After a year, the stake and the rope are still strong enough to keep a small elephant tethered, although it continues to try unsuccessfully, to get free. At this point the animal realizes that the rope will always be too strong and so it gives up. This story shows that Childhood is the best time to character formation. So the school time is the best time to lay the foundation of the core values essential for the overall development of the citizen of tomorrow. The world’s mighty animal is regimented by a small rope then why can’t you and I be disciplined by following the instructions given to us.
